Winter in Korea can reveal the hidden beauty of the South Korean open country. Each year, heavy snowfall in remote Korean countries covers vast forests, hills, and valleys revealing beautiful scenery that is often unknown to many foreigners. Korail offers a unique view of the breathtaking from the comfort of a train tour called the Snow Flower Train (눈꽃열자). The trains generally run from December to February, though the actual schedules vary depending on the particular tour. There are two main Snow Train destinations for travelers would be the Taebaek Mountain Snow Festival and Deokyusan Mountain, with a few stops along the way. Wonderful can assist with checking the schedule and making bookings on your behalf, so feel free to message us if you need help planning your trip.

Taebaeksan Snow Flower Train

The Taebaek Snow Festival is one of the most famous winter festivals in Korea. Taebaek Mountain offers scenic views of snow capped peaks and forests, while the snow festival itself has a variety of fun winter activities for you and your family. From viewing beautiful snow monuments and light sculptures to fun activities like sledding and playing the traditional spinning top (paeng-i) game, there is plenty to do during your trip.

There are a number of stops along your way to Taebaek-san. This depends on the route that you take. The main departure stations would be Seoul Station, Cheongyanggi Station or Suwon Station, but there are trains leaving other places in Korea like Busan as well. Depending on the travel package that you get, you might be able to visit other stations along the way, though that depends on the route.

Deokyusan Snow Flower Train

Another snow flower train destination would be the Deokyusan Mountain. The train to this place departs from Seoul, Yeongdeungpo, or Suwon station and goes to Daejeon station. There is another train that departs from Busan Station to Daejeon Station. There are a number of notable stops on the Busan-Deokyusan line, such as the Muju Gucheon Valley or the Sky Garden/Garden of Sky , both lovely to see during winter. You would get to Daejeon Station then go to Deokyu Mountain by shuttle bus. The hike up the mountain to the gondola is breathtaking (not just from the cold), so bring your cameras and dress appropriately.
